"Foodcube sales are picking up in no small part due to covid19 and the fact that more people are finding that Foodcube is a great way to grow plants!
Customers are also looking for an Australian made product that is sustainably made which Foodcube is both." Marc said.
Marc also wants us to ensure people understand the safety issues when installing the Foodcube on balconies or raised structures, as below:
"Safety is a key issue as the number of sales increase to the public and hence, we all need to be aware of a potential safety issue about the placement of Foodcubes on balconies or raised structures as the weight and format can be an issue in certain circumstances.
For instance if someone installed only 7 full foodcubes on this balcony it is equivalent to the weight of 30 people (average weight of an Australian adult is 80 kilograms) who caused a balcony collapse in this instance -
We have placed warnings and will update warnings on our Installation manual and website, however there is also a responsibility on resellers to warn customers about placing Foodcubes on balconies and decks.
Biofilta does not want to see anyone hurt as a result of a building collapse or lack of warning about placement and we have a duty of care to inform you of this responsibility also."
BIOFILTA FOODCUBES HAVE A DEEP SOIL PROFILE AND LARGE WATER RESERVOIR AND ARE HEAVY. THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF THE CONTAINER, SOIL, WATER AND PLANTS OF A SINGLE 1.32 SQUARE METER FOODCUBE IS UP TO 400 KILOGRAMS, WHICH IS THE EQUIVALENT TO THE WEIGHT OF 5 ADULTS.
BEFORE YOU INSTALL ANY BIOFILTA PRODUCT ON DECKS, ROOFTOPS, BALCONIES OR ANY OTHER RAISED STRUCTURE YOU MUST CONSULT A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL SUCH AS STRUCTURAL ENGINEER TO ENSURE THE STRUCTURE HAS THE APPROPRIATE LOAD BEARING CAPACITY AND IS STRUCTURALLY SOUND.
PLEASE ENSURE THEY ARE INSTALLED AWAY FROM FALL ZONES WHERE THEY COULD BE USED AS CLIMBING STRUCTURES BY CHILDREN OR PETS. CHECK WITH LOCAL BUILDING REGULATIONS FOR SAFE DISTANCE.
